Trend: production-integrated Quality Assurance The full geometry measurement is implemented with a motorised rotation unit and measurements from different perspectives are fused into a comprehensive 3D data set in a fully automated process. In terms of technology, Alicona, founded in 2001 and today employing more than 100 people, relies on focus variation for area-based 3D surface measurements. The high resolution is made possible by the high measuring point density, with up to 500 million measuring points in total. More than 30 employees work on the continuous further development of Alicona technology, where the trend clearly points towards production- integrated, fully automated quality assurance using high-resolution, optical measurement technology. The company’s next innovation is set to premiere at the EMO. Gerhard Melcher and Alfred Maier are planning to follow up on the possibilities of roughness measurements in the near future. “We have already performed a few tests – this feature would allow us to automate and quickly archive our Ra and Rz measurements. We are keen to leverage this function, as we also offer a range of CVD and PVD coating systems that need to be documented.” Evaluation extremely down to grain size: within minutes can be scanned complete cutting insterts and represent with the included evaluation software in meaningful models. 007 BOEHLERIT MAGAZINE
