There are many new tech- nologies that concern you as the user, the industry as a whole and our company Boehlerit. Special challenges are posed by the increasingly difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium, Inconel and also stainless materials. The turning grades and geometries (see page 15) and the new HB40T grade in carbide rods for shank tools for the machining of titanium are making many machining tasks a whole lot easier. We scored a major success with our new Boehlerit milling range that has met with great approval since its market launch in October 2015. The range is fine tuned for face and step milling of numerous materials; and 76 % of the market response to our 10 new milling systems and 12 new milling grades is better than that of our competi-tors. I have been working in the tool industry for more than 30 years, but have never before seen such a distinct competitive edge. “Best results” are also provided by the hardest CVD diamond edges for the turning of sintered carbide that make our product innovations launched at the end of 2015 and beginning of 2016 complete. Boehlerit establishes “hard facts” with our automatic tool logistics that help you reduce your indirect tooling cost. Additive manufacturing means great challenges but also great opportunities for us. Read more on this topic on page 8. We also bring an article on electric motors describing how this modern challenge can be successfully and economically met. We are continuing to invest in advanced technologies, such as 3D micro coordinate measurement instruments (see page 4) and in state-of-the-art laser systems that cut development times by a whole year. Our environment and sustainability are issues that mean a great deal to us. Boehlerit uses only fair resources in the produc- tion of its carbides. Like virtually all companies, Boehlerit is also affected by Indus- try 4.0; and we are going to bring more about that in the next issue.
