New modular tooling system for heavy-duty machining The BULLtec tooling system by Boehlerit was designed to enable highly efficient milling processes in heavy-duty conditions. With BULLtec, Boehlerit has developed a completely new tooling system designed especially for milling in heavy-duty applications. The BULLtec tooling system covers diameters from 200 to 500 millimetres and the simple replacement process for cartridges and cutting inserts means that the system can be used for surface and side milling. BULLtec tools are suitable for the milling of a wide range of materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminium and titanium. No adjustment is required when replacing the, and exchanging the cutting inserts is strikingly easy, thanks to an innovative clamping system and two-side access. Tools from the new BULLtec range always consist of a basic body with replaceable cartridges for the cutting inserts. The BULLtec basic body are available in three designs ranging from 200 to 315 millimetres in diameter for the standard range and may be used to create tools with 9 to 18 cutting edges. Upon request, Boehlerit can also supply tools with a diameter of up to 500 millimetres and up to 22 cutting edges. The standard range comprises cartridges for cutting inserts for face milling with a setting angle of 45° and maximum cutting depths of 8.5 to 14 millimetres. Cartridges are also available for side milling with a setting angle of 90° and cutting depths of up to 16 millimetres. The range is completed by cartridges for cutting inserts for aluminium milling. They have a setting angle of 60° and allow cutting depths of up to 15 mil- limetres. What sets the cartridges apart is their stable, precise connec- tion to the basic body through a retaining groove, which enables users to replace the cartridges without any adjustment at all. This means that the tooling system can be adapted to specific tasks quickly and easily or reconfigured from scratch as needed. All cartridges for steel processing have the same fitted compo- nents and come with a clamping bracket for the cutting inserts, which makes replacing the cutting inserts in the machine much easier. In fact, the inserts may be replaced wearing just protective gloves – a screw- driver for opening and closing the clamp is all that is required. 016 BOEHLERIT MAGAZINE
